Rear parking sensor

Hi everyone. Just purchased a disco 3. It's a 2008 model SE

I have searched the forum and found a couple of threads about changing the parking sensor. I have found the sensor that's not working, a couple of broken wires. I am trying to push out the sensor but it's just not moving. Am I doing it right? Should I be pushing it out or pulling it in?

I really need to push it out so I can get to the wires, as there is just no room because it's on the end right next to the exhaust

Any help?

O dear I didn't want to hear that....

Ok, I did look at the other thread on here about removing the bumper and it looks like a pain.

Why can't they just make things simple. Most likely going to take me 3 hours or more just to sort one sensor

I know, my O/S outer produces a fault. I got a replacement sensor and only then realised what's involved - it's still in the cup holder 2 moths later Big Cry Big Cry

I’ve had one to do for a while. I’m waiting for better weather before tackling it. To be fair it doesn’t sound too bad a job, as long as the various screws and clips play nicely.

Surely you must be able to pop it out at the back then remove the casing from the bumper, then pop it out the front?

it can't come though the front as the socket for the cable sticks out sideways

As word of caution, drawn from my vast pool of experience with taking the bumper off - which means I did it for the first time about 6 weeks ago - take a look at the socket head bolts on the underside first.

Mine were heavily corroded, and needed to use a power drill with the torque setting set low to get it moving; likely would have been much better with an impact driver/wrench set low torque.

Still ended up shearing the head off one bolt, which is still stuck in there, and if I could do it again would likely try get some penetration oil type stuff in there a few hours or days first.

Otherwise, taking off and putting back on again I managed in about 3 hours all in?

Ok I managed to do it without taking the bumper off, it's a bit of a bodge job at the moment but it's working.

The only problem is I can't push the new sensor flush, it's sitting about 5 mm from the end. Any ideas anyone?

I got a piece of pipe the same diameter as the sensor and hit it with a hammer which popped the sensor out the back, then managed to disconnect the connector and put the new one on.

My hand is cut to bits but worth it.... not.

It is hard but doable, the only trouble is I can't push it hard enough at the moment to get it flush. I will have another go when my hand recovers. But it's ok for now.

I looked and couldn't even see where the back of the sensor is let alone disconnect and replace it?

If it's one on one of the corners you will see it with a torch. The exhaust is in the way which is why my hand is cut to bits.

You have to get right in there but it is doable and saves a lot of work.
