Rear pads life expectancy ?
Howdy,
When my Disco was under the knife this week to sort out the EPB, the visual "healthcheck" revealed that the rear pads were "approaching" 3mm at which point they recommend replacement.
Seeing as the pads went on only 10K miles ago and I am more of a motorway cruiser rather than an urban stop-start shopper I am a little perplexed.
Even if they are actually nearer to 6mm than 3mm might there be an underlying binding issue?
What sort of mileage have you had out of yours?
Ta

rear pad life
Mines got changed after 30,000 miles, from new, and I tow a caravan a fair bit and mostly motorway miles as well. 10 000 sounds very low milage to me??

I changed at 16k, probably another 4k left on them, but i'm paranoid.
I do a LOT of stop-and-go plus offroading. Very little highway miles.
Also the 2nd set of wheels with offroad tires are pretty heavy.-------------------

In 4 out of 4 Pad Replacements front pads are worn out very shortly after rear, easier to replace all at one. I use EBC green stuff pads and Rotors... I am very happy with the rotors, which have lasted 60k so far, with no end in site, unlike the original rotors, 20k.... So, on average 20k a set.. this all depends on your driving habits and the conditions.
cheers

Just had my rears pads changed at 22000 miles. Also advised fronts only have 1000 miles left.

I would be inclined to take a look at the pads yourself to see how worn they really are.
My disco went into the local dealer for a service. They told me the rear pads were down to 3mm - we should change them now. I declined their kind offer. The disco went back to the dealer again a few weeks later for warranty work, this time the rear were advised as being 4mm. A few weeks later it went back for more warranty work again ... this time the pads were advised as being 5mm.
Maybe I was lucky and had highly experimental "self healing" pads ... or someone was pulling my plonker.
I measured myself, got several thousand more miles out of the pads and then used Body's brake bible to do the job myself (@24k miles). Many £££s saved.

Hi all,
This is my first posting, anyway brought my D3 with 26.5K, change fronts disc & pad at 71k and rears at 80k (this week).
I used brit part disc and mintex pads, for the rear I used allmarks 4x4 uprated spec (drilled and slotted) with mintex pads.
The D3 is a commercial spec of whic the poor car is towing 2.5-3.5 tonnes weekly
