Rear Number Plate

I have just removed the stuck on number plate to fix a plinth and replace the Discovery badge only to find two hexagonal screw holes and have no idea how to now fit.

I contacted local Indy for parts and they can only sell me 26 screws at £60.00 but I only need two Sad

But what do the screws fix into as there is nothing inside?

I am also struggling to remove the old sticky tape which is a real nightmare to remove, screws and plinths like on the front are the best solution all round.

Any help is much appreciated.

I would guess the holes are for screwing a number plate on. Try a hairdryer on the sticky tape to warm it and soften or soak it in white spirit.

I've went through this Laughing

The part you need is in this thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post771486.html#771486 - a main dealer will sell you them individually.

The sticky stuff takes about lot of patience and something like WD40 and a plastic scraper. I also noticed yesterday that PowerfulUK sell a special tool for removing the remnants...

I have bought the plinth from powerful UK but when sizing it up the holes are in the wrong place and seems to be too large for the area without preventing the door from closing.

I have managed to get this far with the sticky tape removal with help from sponge, water, Tesco clubcard and most of it from using claybar and detailer.

Will try the WD40 though!!!.

You're not wrong patience is the key to this horrible job.

I soak things like that in Eucalypti oil. There should be a oblong plastic piece that uses those two holes to mount it and the number plate then fits to the plastic piece so you have a missing part

Remaining adhesive can be removed by spring it with WD40 and rubbing with a reasonably coarse cotton cloth

those hex plastic inserts were what my first D4 had … removed them and used tape. they are, I believe, the "proper" fitting for UK market.

second one had round black stickers over the holes, remnants of tape that refused to come off (and scratches showing someone had tried !) plus two Censored holes Censored drilled to take self Censored tappers.

I've bought but not yet fitted "hollow wall" rawlpugs and will enlarge the Censored holes to take those then at least it's not metal-on-metal.

I have ordered two 8mm plugs as recommended from local Indy.

Still some sticky stuff to get off.

Where to find the oblong plastic piece?

some strangeness going on ? when I view this thread on my phone, I see a picture in the above post … but not on my PC. and even more oddly, now I've quoted the post by Globetrotter448, the link to the jpg is included within the quote.

Is it just me or anyone else having the issue?

H'm, your posts are coming through "Disco4" forum and not "Disco3" so that might be the problem

Thanks just realised with Disco4 emails coming through.

Easy mistake but not a great difference between the two versions I hope!! in terms of the holes on the rear.
