Rear nearside wearing fast on the outside

Hi All,

Now, I am not sure whether or not this is characteristic of all D4s, but my rear nearside seems to be wearing pretty fast and just on the outside edge.

I took to car to quickfit some 4 weeks back and they pretty much confirmed that the tracking was spot on. So, if the tracking is good, why is it that I am now having to replace the tire with some 3.5 or so left on the tread?

Seems strange to me. Big Cry

Tracking or 4 wheel alignment? If the former then it goes some way to explain you tyre wear, can only check the geometry properly on a Disco by doing a 4 wheel alignment Thumbs Up

Interesting.

I think tracking was the expression used, not alignment. Right, going back to them today.

So I went back today. It seems that my tyre was so bad that it was starting to thread! Anyway, after changing the rears, they rechecked the alignment and it was off somewhat. I am not clear on severity, but certainly enough to cause unusual wearing.

They tell me that it's all done now, so let's see what happens.

How about wishbones, lower upper etc, if these have gone then it could miss-align wheel......a bad wheel bearing as well......both my rear uppers and front lowers have gone and my garage said that this would affect Tyre wear.......although better experts on here than me

Did they put the car in tight tolerance mode - otherwise the wheel alignment will have been a complete waste of time???

Quote:
At any given point in time, the normal tolerances of the EAS system means that the weight of the vehicle may be dispersed unequally between the four corners.

In this situation you simply cannot possibly correctly set any physical geometry.

Tight Tolerance Mode makes the EAS system distribute the weight much more evenly and so allows physical geometry to be adjusted as it would in a vehicle without EAS.

The TTM mode is provided for this very reason, and in my humble opinion, you should steer well clear of any aligning outfit that has no knowledge, understanding or appreciation of this important aspect and requirement.

I have given up having 4 wheel alignment done other than at a LR dealer, they seem the only ones near me who do it properly., including checking steering angle sensor setting.

Another thought, it is no good having wheel alignment done with unevenly worn tyres as it will put a set in the rubber bushes. When in USA I had very uneven wear on inside edge of rear tyres , dealer wouldn't even contemplate doing the alignment until tyres replaced, said I would be just wasting money.
