Rear Light Removal

Hi All,

Still trying to get the tow electrics installed for the Disco 4.
Requires removal of the bumper cover which requires remove the rear lights.

So looking at the lights - i remove the 2 screws and the light is loose, however, the instructions say to 'release the 2 clips'
I can't quite figure out how to 'release the 2 clips'.

Does anyone know if they just pop off like the trim clips or is there something more sophisticated?

Any help gratefully received.

David

Remove the two screws and pull the light towards you - the two clips they mention are just pressure fit pins that wedge into rubber grommets.

Just give it a damn good yank and they'll come straight out - you won't/can't break anything Thumbs Up

Hello

they are just popped in so they pop out

technique is to turn them a tiny bit.

Exemple : driver side light : open tailgate, take 2 screws out, with you left hand pull the vertical black plastic part of the light towards you, put you fingers behind it, put the palm of your right hand on the side of the light/right wing, the with you left hand pull firmly toawards you (not sideway at all)

they are so popped in they hold together even with the screws out, hence you difficulty to pull them out, though you have to take the bull by the horns !

cheerio

EDIT : Spain was faster than France

Just be careful when refitting that they are correctly aligned otherwise you could damage the pins that enter the bodywork and you can't buy spares.

I did the install for the electrics myself this evening. All went well except I couldn't find the little grommets to secure the wire to underneath the bumper. I managed to plug the first little plastic (white) one in just behind the big plug, but I couldn't get my hand far enough behind the weird iron swinging thing under the bumper for the other two, even after lowering the spare tire.

The wires seem to be tucked in okay but a little nervous they could come loose and rub while off-roading, etc.

Any ideas?

You shouldn't have to remove the bumper cover to fit the electrics - well not in a D3 anyway.
So don't know why on a D4 .....
... or are you just being thorough ?

There's definitely nothing in the instructions about needing to remove the bumper to install the electrics. All I had to do was remove the little black cover above the hitch to install the plug for the electrics. Still stumped about how to grommet them into place though behind the bumper.
