I only picked up my D3, (56 plate HSE), last week and am still finding new toys in it to play with. One thing i have just noticed was that on the 4x4 display, there is a diff lock icon over the rear axle as well as the tranfer box; does this mean i have an active rear diff?

AFAIK it is standard on the HSE

The icon is standard, the active diff isn't, you probably haven't got one and the padlock will never lock The End

No it doesn't and no it's not  edit - unles you meant the icon... 
It will highlight orange when it locks - then you know you have one Disco 5 HSE Lux
