Rear diff lock

Hi everybody,

this is my first post here and I hope I'll find the right answers....

My Disco3 has only the central diff lock, which is (as everybody knows) almoust useless in muddy or slippery terrain....

I asked my dealer if they can mount this on my car but I got a negative answer... So I'm very interested in mounting an aftermarket rear diff lock (and eventually a front diff lock, if possible), so the other off-road partners don't have to winch me out of the s Censored t...

Does anybody know a LR tuner who can do this? Or do you know if the ARB air lock work with the TRS together?

Thanks in advance...

I have never found the D3 to be as bad as you make out in muddy/slippery conditons.

There is always a limit to what can be achieved on a given level of traction and grip available.

However, I am interested to see if third party system can be attached and how the would integrate with the complex systems LR have used, LR spent a great deal of time and money developing Terrain response, and indeed still are doing so.

Other on here would be better able to comment, but there is a big event on this weekend at Rockingham so responses might take a little longer to get through.

have never seen nor heard of any third party diff lock and the LR unit is not retro fitable.

Eh? why do you say that? my experience shows me that the D3 is supremely capable in standard form, on road tyres it can often get out of situations that see other vehicles shod with extreme tyres stuck fast!

My suggestion to you is that you are not using the systems correctly, and you are making the basic error of not switching the DSC off when driving off-road. This will have a dramatic effect on the level of power and traction available. It does tell you to do this in the manual.

I am certain that it is not possible to retro fit a land Rover rear locker, and I also would doubt that aftermarket items are available yet. Good luck Thumbs Up

The LR rear locker is an e-diff and linked to the cars systems which is why its only a factory fit (would technically be possible but prohibitively expensive too I guess).

There has been talk of air lockers etc being designed but that was three years ago nearly and nothing has surfaced fromn what I can remember.

Oh and as Gareth says... the standard D3 is DAMN impressive and by no means hobbled by the lack of a rear e-diff.

I take it by that statement that you've not really driven it on any muddy or slippery terrain then? Confused The End

Went up Sani Pass in Lesotho recently in the rain . This pass is very easy when it's dry , but notorius (sp?) in the wet . What impressed me was how little the diff locks actually engaged (especially the rear) , even in the wet on road tyres.

First of all, thanks for the answers...

Beleive me, I tried it several times in difficult terrain conditions, I drive every two week-ends to the mountains and test all the systems there... Once I was driving on an open straight field, which was not so wet and suddently I got stuck... I tried eveything to get the car out, but the right front wheel was in sunk in a place where some water collected and and became very slippery there.... Then I had to call a friend with a Land Cruiser to winch me out of there... The conclusion was that if I had a rear diff lock, the rear axle could have got me out of there.... (the rear wheels were not spinning..)

If you think the central diff lock and the electronics work so well, why do LR offer a rear diff lock? Shocked
