Rear Cam chain snapped.

Hi ( first post so apologies if errors are made).
I am looking for some help and guidance. after some diagnostics we have found that the Rear Cam chain has snapped taking with it the tensioner ( plastic) the garage ordered the new part and have discovered from the parts retrieved of the broken chain we are missing 6 or 7 links.

concerned we need to get these bits out, I am looking for any past experiences to go from before body off engine out and strip.

camera has been in to take look but not worked, thinking sump off could see it?

thanks in advance

I think if that chain has snapped, you'll be looking at a lot more than just replacing the chain and tensioner.. Like an engine..

I think we are ok and for sure that could be the end result, we think it snappped when the engine was turn off, it ran again for a second so a chance we have the fix, problem is the second part of the chain it can’t be seen, if we can and ( and the engine is gone) fitting a chain and trying it I don’t think would cause more damage?

Excuse my potential stupidity, but I thought the rear belt was for the fuel pump, not the timing of the engine?

All honestdy I think we are safe on this do you know if part of the chain has dropped below the cogs, are we talking body off etc to find the “missing link”
Close to resigning to a large cost!

The belt may be but this is like a bike chain, I think it connects the 2 cam shafts on one side of the v.

Presumably the cam cover has been taken off for you to retrieve the broken parts ? I would have thought the unaccounted for parts would still be in the vicinity. I doubt if there is a large enough route down to the sump on this engine.

There is room for the bits to make their way down to the sump. Here is a picture of mine. Its easy to take the sump off and check.

I didn't mean to upset you, but it's quite possible that valves have collided with pistons.
I do hope there's minimal damage. I know how costly these things can be as I have had D3 & D4 engine troubles too.

Know how it feels to be where you are at the present.
