Rear Brake Light Bulbs
Drove behind my wife this morning for a few minutes, I noticed that one of the rear brake bulbs was out. Tried to search the site, no success. What light bulb will I need and does it have to be from the dealer, is it easy to replace without having to go to the stealership?
Cheers.

The bulb is a 21w/5w 'Stop/Tail'. As a stop-gap, simply swap it with the other bulb in the same unit - they're both 'stop/tail' bulbs, but only one actually is a stop lamp.
To get the unit out, remove the 2 screws visible once the tailgate is lowered, then gently pull the outer edge rearwards to release the clips. The lamp holder is a bayonet fitting in the back of the fitting.Regards,

I assume these are generic stop/brake bulbs, I am trying to avoid going to the dealer due to distance.

You can use any, but some folk have had problem with the filaments shorting out, which causes some strange faults. The filaments in the OEM ones are further apart then in some other brands.
I'd use whatever is handy, but remember to get some proper ones next time you're at the dealer.
Not sure if the tail lights have the same bulb in - if they do you could swap them over.

Thanks for the tips. Went to the stealer yesterday and bought me a couple of bulbs, very easy job to replace, the amount of dust under the rear light clusters is truly amazing, I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend. Overall a two minute job.
Cheers.

I thought at one point that I was getting this problem, (turned out to be the brake light switch) but in the process I found that Halfords do some "Heavy Duty" bulbs for 4x4 use, where not only are the filaments further apart, but they have a centre leg support on the filament instead of just being strung from end to end, intended to help stop the filament bouncing around on rough terrain and possibly shorting/breaking.
I realise you won't have a Halfords in Dubai (!) but for he rest of you it might be useful....D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Whilst on the topic of brake lights, has anyone tried using LED stop/tail light bulbs in a D3
Do they work, or do they cause strange going's on on the dash
I installed a pair of the so called Phillips QR ones (Supposed to be quicker response) but if I can see the slightest difference in on/off times
(and before you ask, how could I see whilst my foot was on the brake pedal, I stopped with my a*se end facing a big shop window and looked in the mirror Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
