Can anyone tell me if there is a way to turn of or disable the ping that accompanies the dash display telling you that the key is in the ignition etc.
Many thanks

Don't think it can be done mate. i am sure someone smarter will be along soon to confirm.
if you leave the key in the ign the car is still "awake" and can flatten the battery so either take the key out or open the drivers window and leave it in Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

Why would you want to disable it?
It is there for a reason, LR deem it not safe/sensible to start the car until a startup sequence/check has been completed - the ping tells you that has happened, there is no other indication so how would you know when it was safe to fire the ignition? I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Fair enough Ken
But have they replaced it with some other visual prompt that the startup sequence is complete
And after reading your post it is possible i was thinking about a different BING to the original poster, sorry to sj1202 if my reply therefore seemed OTT I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

My MY07 has no "I'm ready" Bong, so I just wait for the last of either the SRS light or the glow-plug lights to go out. If you have the aircon on automatic, this also comes on around the same time so you don't necessarily have to watch. Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

Not a prob SJR, it bings all the time if the key is in the ignition (without key being turned on), for example if cleaning the car ie. doors open and radio on bing, bing, bing!!!!

Scott, he wasn't kidding. The car draws major amps when the key is in, even when not turned on. It's much better to take it out and put it in your pocket. If you want the radio, just turn it on in the usual way once the key is withdrawn. This will also cancel the "You're about to abandon me with the keys in" warning; it's annoying on purpose Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Slightly of topic, but I don’t seem to have the hang of the search feature. My 57 has just started doing the random Bing!
Whilst driving, no warning lights, nothing on the display, just every now & again, a random BING!
Bloody annoying!! The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Quite often that's a problem with the seat wiring harness. A search with +seat +wiring +bong might help, or something similar to that. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

The car is lonely. It's trying to communicate with you.
