I understand there still under test. They filled up with a tank of fuel 3 days ago and have not returned yet.

Surely we need to wait until they have clocked up a few miles before MPG is measured?

It will be interesting to see the Real World MPG comparisons between the 2 and 3 litres. Specifically whether you have to work the 2 litre more and thus see the MPG drop or whether the smaller engine is worth it.

Same TDV6 engine in Jag' F-PACE for me has 'real world' driving average of 34.8mpg over 4000 miles.
In comparison D4's I had with same engine consistently around 31mpg for me so around 12% better and I'd expect similar in a D5 when I have one at some point

I still say that if a lightly loaded SD4 Ingenium engined Discovery 5 cannot reach an average MPG of somewhere between 40-50mpg on the open road, then there is a serious issue somewhere.....
It will be interesting to see. There are differences in road types and driving styles in each country too so the more results that come in from around the world, the better! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Not a chance of 40-50mpg and I think that is an unrealistic expectation in reality given your average large family hatch in 2.0d guise is probably only just in that ball-park really.
The 'going average' in DS and Evoque from a lot of people here is probably around 35-36mpg and my personal usage is around 36-38mpg and I tend to achieve better than my peers overall.
The 2.0d Ingenium in F-PACE was upper 30's for my usage when I had one, similar to Evoque/DS.
I would not expect 40+ mpg except on a 'holiday run' or regular 'tootle' up to my mum on 200 mile round trips.

Ive always thought car mpgs was and is quite frankly utter rubbish, Ive worked on trucks for years and 20 years ago 38 ton 320bhp would be pleased with 5mpg now its euro 6 and 44 ton 430+bhp with 10 mpg, compare that to D3/4 best on a run of 27/30 its just shows how poor current mpg is.

That's all very well, but the quoted JLR mpg figures for the Discovery 5 do suggest it is capable of those sorts of economy results, i.e. up to and into the 50mpg bracket, especially with Aero wheels fitted.
Now whilst I agree that printed quoted figures are not normally completely reliable, my point is that on the D4 the quoted JLR figures were not far off the actual results being recorded by most drivers, i.e. a couple of mpg here and there.
Surely, therefore, JLR are not going to quote 50mpg when the vehicle will only do 35mpg?
It's too far out! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

They absolutely will claim fuel figures that are unachievable, and they all do it. Audi claims around 48 mpg for the Q7, Volvo something similar for the XC90. Both achieve 30 in the real world. My wife's Golf bluemotiom was claimed to deliver 75 mpg, achieved high 40s. Basically, what ever the number is, take off about. 25% to a third for real world. I think it's fairly recent because I always got about 28 from my D3 which, As you say, wasn't far off the claimed mpg. Funnily enough my 2015 991 (with a 3.8 litre petrol engine) regularly gives me 30mpg, and that's about the claimed mpg. The new 991s, with the smaller turbo engines, and the claimed higher mpg and lower co2 are actually worse than mine from the reviews I've read. TBH, you can't blame the manufacturers, it's the tests that stink. Java TDV6 HSE with Alpaca and a few other fancy bits

Thought this thread was 'real life' numbers not the brochure claims as otherwise what's the point?
As stated all manufacturers claim (well, actually they can, have, proven these figures but in 'test conditions') numbers no-one recognises
If anyone thinks 40-50mpg is a 'realistic average MPG figure' in a D5 then they are smoking something
In context we had a Fiesta 1.6d and that across all conditions consistently averaged 53mpg and you think a D5 can get close to that.

Just let this thread run because no doubt people will be along to say they're getting 50mpg, the fuel threads make me laugh.
Be lucky if any of them do anymore than 33mpg.
