RATTLE ON START UP :/

Evening all
Think im getting the disco paranoia Rolling with laughter

Since ownership of this blooming great car (even better than my last)
It has always rattled just after firing up for um...2 seconds at most and today I blipped the throttle as it did it and it got louder-ish

Normal??

is it the egr just rattling/ bug-gered in need of 'blanking off as I am tempted as last few weeks even with my 'superbchip' see my mpg go back to its 25 mpg..

I did the map sensor clean t'other week didn't really notice much tbh, though it might have been more lively but might of imagined it.. Rolling Eyes

But the tank dunt harf shift still, left a chav in a saxo for dust earlier going up a hill too, was just a shame when I got to the sharp corner at the top Embarassed (note to self: you do not drive a scoob anymore)

any how any thoughts would be as ever greatly appreciated

Thanks, Mick Bow down Bow down

had one funny noise when the bonnet rubber stoppers at the front became unscrewed.

Power seems OK, so try reloading original mapping. Does it go away when engine is warm ? Could also be injectors a bit clogged, try using a fuel additive injector cleaner for a couple of tanks and go for a long run in command shift 4th on Mway
There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Well I say rattle its more like a loud ticking, (thanks for reply btw)
it has always made this noise even before remap,
and last for no more than a couple of seconds...

I was parked next to one in Asda today too and when that started it sounded the same, but dont want to go down the route of 'oh mine must be ok 'coz that one is doing it too'

Maybe I am being picky, as I always am with my vehicles. I get used to them then start picking up on things. Not good as I tend to lavish money on them, then Mr. Green

Credit card on standby . . . . . . Thumbs Up

They all do it Rolling with laughter

Seriously, I had the same thought when I first got mine, but it really is normal.

But wouldn't recommend blipping the throttle just after startup - that is the worst time for wear, and I assume the oil is still getting to all the places it needs to get to for a couple of seconds.

my d3 ticks for the first few seconds of start up also ,has done for the last 6 months ,i'm going to try an oil change to see if it helps ,makes me think the oil that the dealer has used is not the best Smile

Mine was "ticking" for about 5 seconds on a cold start. I have heard other discoveries doing it too.
If my engine is restarted shortly after being turned off, there is no ticking.

I guess it maybe the tappets rattling whilst they get more oil.

After two oil & filter changes in the past 12 months, the ticking on cold start has reduced.

I have always treated all my cars to frequent oil & filter changes (using good quality oil).

I too get worried whenever there are strange noises, (££££££) but have accepted that this is normal. Mine has now done approx 132,000 miles.

Has anyone got a low mileage discovery that makes the ticking noise on startup?

Same for me also (76K) Rolling Eyes

I too thought something terminal on the way but it seems to have dissapeared at the moment, perhaps it will return when it gets colder but by then I'll have my FBH mod in place Whistle
