apparently its ready!

ive been told they have fitted [in their words] "some valves" one from the top and one from the bottom - can anyone whos a bit more technically minded advise what the valves may be? will they work? can valves fix an oil leak?

I'm not an expert but how are you sure it is an oil leak? White smoke never signalled an oil leak to me. I'd expect blue smoke for that.

Going by that info (and some similar info easily found by my best friend google) I would get the injectors and compression checked.

Well, get it back. If it's not fixed I think you really should get a second opinion.

As I said I'm no expert. Just going by common causes of white smoke under acceleration.

I believe EGR valves can also cause white smoke when they go bad. Maybe that's the valves they talked about?

im noe expert either dennis - far from it!

if it re-occurs i'll take it elsewhere.

I dont think the D4 has EGR valves.

the smoke is all turbo related apparently

Well if it's bluish smoke then yes it could be turbo related. Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish between white and blue.

I did find a thread and noticed in that thread the original poster reported similar symptoms
"I was reporting a problem with my new D4 HSE smoking excessively when pulling away from a standstill (and now, at kick-down on the motorway too)."

I don't mean to alarm you as it might be something simple, but here is that thread...
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic55820.htm

Does yours look anything like that? That is blue smoke.

Definitely take it to someone who knows what he's doing if the symptoms persist.

EDIT: Never mind... thread already posted earlier on it seems.

Yesterday while overtaking a slow truck on an uphill, doing 80kmh in 4th, I put foot and saw a big cloud of white smoke behind me.

On the rest of the drive home, I tried to replicate this, but couldn't Confused

This is the first time this has happened, should I be worried?

I had something similar a few years ago. A replaced turbo oil drain pipe resolved the issue but only after I pointed the dealer at a TSB code that I found on here.

Search for my posts and "smoke" and you should find the thread. (I'm on the mobile at the mo so a little difficult to find it)

Don't use the second turbo (stay under 2500rpm) for a day or 2 and then give it the beans and it will probably replicate. You need to give enough time for the oil to build up again to create the smoke. To avoid inflicting others with smoke, I would say get it done sooner rather than later. Mine wasn't covered by LR as I was out of warranty but WD covered it. I had to argue and they claimed it was a hose, I pointed out there turbo section stated "all turbo parts". I see they have now changed their wording in the turbo section to exclude hoses!

took the D4 out of the garage after 2 weeks and once it was warmed up on the highway, I slowed down and then gave it horns.

on cue, big puff of white smoke, will book it in for the oil drain pipe recall + oil change.
