Quieter All Terrain
Advice needed on tyre choice folks. Have fitted Wrangler Duratracs and the whining at 70 on tarmac is driving me nuts. No tyre supplier seems to be able to give me a straight answer they just say 'All Terrain tyres will be noisier than summer tyres' - well I know that, I stated it in my question ****head, I just want to find a compromise tyre that works on and off road that doesn't give me a headache.
I also learnt that a couple of years ago new legislation meant tyres over a certain width had to be below 72db noise emission and low and behold they are all listed as '72db' now, even the same ones that were 76db previously - go figure.
Use is mostly on road but horse box towing into fields and a bit of green laning. Oh and route to home is a rough track too, as biannual droplink replacement on standard car will testify. Size: 19" rims but will buy 18's if need be.
Any thoughts? I know its subjective...

I can’t really notice any difference in tyre noise between my GG ATs that have just come off and the Duratracs that have just gone one. Maybe because mine are new? And I do have a roof rack etc.
You are going to need a non aggressive tyre if it’s going to be quiet. I think you may struggle with any AT.
Pirelli AT probably have the most normal non AT looking tyre tread, but still seem to get good reviews off-road.
I have read the new AT+ are slightly noisier, but the tread is a lot more open.

Grabber AT3 is quiet, the previous Grabber AT got noisy as it wore. Having run both, the Pirelli AT+ is, I think, a touch noisier than the Grabber AT3 but not by much and it's not been an issue for me so far.
I found the AT3 got a bit slippy in the wet as it wore down to 5mm of tread left, but otherwise was an excellent tyre. Depending on how the Pirelli AT+ does, I may go back to the AT3.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I'm on duratracs and don't notice a whine, there's a slight difference from the scorpion zeros that used to be on but not that bad.

Absolutely, and no extra fuel burn. The discerning choice in AT tyres.

Thanks for all the input everyone, really useful. I'll see if I can sell the Duratracs to someone more hardcore and try some Pirellis or Generals.

I recently run both GG'3s and currently Duratracs, the GG's seem to be a better choice for what your doing but i must admit i'm sold on the Duratracs having just done just over 2000 miles on them.
