I assume taking the car through the car wash this morning with an RAI fiited is something many others have done before (and without problems...) ?The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

No dusky Polish maidens in Lux that will treat it with TLC??? Never took mine through a carwash, tend not to wash it much as that gets done in its regular visit to the dealer!
well I can now answer my own question - yes you can...
(couldn't wait for an affirmative answer from the lazy Monday morning crowd... )
Oh - and what a car wash that has just opened up near where I work And they didn't mind the two day's worth of mud falling off when they used the most powerful jet spray I have ever encountered... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Sorry it's in Dutch and with google translator it gets funny.
SWMBO took mine through a car wash and the black caps did indeed disappear Stealer said would have to buy an entire new RAI to get replacement caps, so I ended up just using dull black metal paint. Still doesn't look the best but then again it camoflauges some bramble scars. Haven't done it again, as it's pretty marginal to fit in to most automatic car washes.Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

Just been down to the garage to check...Mine are still attached
But based on a couple of the comments here, that now makes me wonder if they have been glued on... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

I washed mine on the drive last night using our house pressure washer. It took about an hour to get the crud off the outside and the underneath, and an hour to get the crud off the interior. I didn't finish until after 21:00. The car is still minging on the outside, though.
Tonight I washed the drive. First I shovelled up about a bucket of soil and dust, then I spent another hour with the pressure washer.
On Thursday, I might try washing the outside of the car to a "normal" standard. Does anyone know if you can take a D3 through an automatic car wash with a RAI, winch and rear ladder? I'm guessing that it's hand wash from now on.
When all is done, I'll bolt the mudflaps back on, although they're torn to bits, and maybe think about cleaning out the intercooler and the air compressor. Then I'll take a break from muddy driving for a while.

I know, John. As a matter of not inconsiderable interest, which auto-wash allowed your mud-mobile to pass through its gates today?
They've just opened up the car wash service. Not cheap - 9.80, 15 or 25 euro. (I took the 15 euro option).
I pulled up (still worried about the RAI and mud, dirt etc...) and saw a Defender 90 also waiting...
You get out of the car; they take it in and then proceed to jet was it all over - for a long time. Then you have the normal brush wash etc. For 25 euro they will hand dry it...
And no one complained. In fact I drew quite a crowd as they proceeded to clean the car... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
