Off shopping to get cables and relay etc for the roof-lights.
Do I need to run twin core to the roof or will the lamps earth OK to the expo rack please?
Also, I reckon that the 4 lamps will draw 25A (4x75w = 300 /12 = 25) so I reckon 25A cable is gonne be quite thick stuff to run up the a-pillar 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Hi cotefarmboy, You will actually need a cable capable of handling far more than just 25 amps and it’s note for the current requirements of the lights but to reduce the amount of voltage drop at the lights.
You need to run both positive and negative cables to get the best possible brightness out of your lights.
You will need two x 6mm2 twin cable for each set of two lights if you want to get minimum voltage drop over the long run of cable to the lights.
A single 40 amp Headlight relay will do the job but I’d recommend you use two separate headlight relays and a couple of 25 amp fuses, so you can easily carry the current and at some time in the future if you want to up the light globes to 100w, everything is in place.
On the new RR, a white wire with a light green trace is the high beam wire, not sure if this is the same on the D3 but someone else can confirm.

Twin cable for auto applications is like flippin hens teeth, Halfrauds don't stock it nor do any of the chain type auto shops, Maplins are out of stock near me too
Any idea where you can get decent cable from? Don't want to wait for mail-order.
I was even thinking about twin core mains flex, the thinner black flat type as used in lamps etc, I am sure it can handle the 12v 25A load and would like tidy too. Any thoughts? 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Hi again cotefarmboy, although not ideal, the mains cable will work but it will also tend to fatigue fairly quickly if not secured properly.
You might try looking for an auto electrical wholesaler and see if they can either supply you direct or direct you to a local outlet.
Cheers.
PS, i wouldn’t consider mail-order just for cable as the cables weight will make it very expensive. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Try here for excellent cable, but expensive.. Tinned cable for marine use which won't go black if moisture gets in.

Have got a link somewhere for cheaper cable but can't find it at mo.. Will keep looking.. Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

Good work xtc.
Cotefarmboy, you could use the 10 x2 AWG and it would do the job for two lights per cable but do not use bigger globes than the 75w or you could go to something like the Philips Crystal Vision 55w globes.
