Quick-Release number plate - ideas needed

I need some ideas as to how to mount my number plate (on it's plinth) so it can be quickly removed to get to my new hidden winch? I thought about just using screws and unscrewing when needed but that is clumsy and I guess the screws will eventually work loose in the plastic bumper.

Thought about bolts with wing-nuts but as I can't get to the back of the bumper without stripping it down this isn't really viable as I won't be able to tighten them.

Velcro etc won't work as the plinth has nowhere flat on the back.

Confused Confused Confused

I presumed the plinth was flat underneath. What does it look like?

try some rivnuts through holes in the bumber and allen key head bolts, two thin nuts to lock and then you can use wing nuts for the number plate. Exclamation

Andy - can you not create some kind of slide in mechanism, so when needed you can slide the registration plate in and out? You may need some kind of permanent fixture for wading to prevent the number plate floating off during wading....

Either that or can you not pivot it (top or bottom) so when you need to use the winch you drop it out of the way?

I'll post a pic of the back of the plinth shortly to try and explain.

What are they Geoff?

This is the back of the plinth, I think the only way is to fit some bolts from behind through the bumper and maybe glue them in place from the back then use wing-nuts from the front.

what about a couple of the competition 'pin and ring' bonnet fasteners ?

fit the plinth and make a slot for the winch bits through it then mount the number plate on the plinth using the bonnet fasteners...................?

Andy - I have been ruminating about this for some time and intend to try four of these extremely strong magnets you can get these days, in association with a couple of retention slots to prevent vibration / G-forces causing it to drop off. Not even reached R&D yet, but will e-mail you a sketch if interested. Even the tiny magnets pull about 12kg Shocked

2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
