Had front brake pads changed yesterday by the independant next to my office, but on way home tonight I had the briefest of flashes of a red light on dashboard and the "change brake pads" warning came on very briefly.
Anything they haven't done before I go in there all guns blazing?
They apparentlyput new sensors in also.
£150 inc which to be honest was only £15 less that LR but they did it straight away rather than me waiting a few days and then hanging around for 2 hours at Lancaster. Welcome "Lola"

DiscoDunc beat me to it. Agree with checking the sensors first.

just rethinking the "red light", is the brake fluid res lid screwed on properly. ive nevdr had my brake warning message but I didnt think it came on with the RED Brake light inidcator. could be wrong, probably am.
ive done 80k miles and on my 3rd set. i tend to check them every few months and chnage them when required. HDC can wear them out very quickly. 4 days of solid offroading in jan 08 used 20% of the pad thickness Duncan

If the pad sensor wasn't seated / not there, IIRC the message will appear in the Information screen as 'Check Brake Pads' - the warning light is yellow with an accompanying 'bing' - or so it was on Sunday when I was changing mine.....
A Red light sounds a lot more serious....... I see no ships........

As the "change brake pad" message came on i would check the sensors on the pads first but agree that you shouldnt have got a red light as this is normally the brake fluid resevoir sensor which DiscoDunc stated to check incase it wasnt screwed back on properly as this would have been off when the caliper was pushed back whilst changing the pads or the fluid was topped up.
Regards
Matt

When they change the pads and push the piston back in, doesn't it force fluid back into the resevoir. On a previous car (not LR) I had this made the resevoir overflow and affected the warning light as well as spilling brake fluid down the engine bay. As part of a service they always top up the fluid which then drops as the pads wear and the pistons move out further, hence the overflow when you get new one's.
Only a suggestion.

Would have though they'd have checked the rear pads before just changing the front...would have been the sensible thing to do, but do garages do "sensible"?
No time to look at it today apparently. Welcome "Lola"

Apparently, the cable to the rear sensor had "been worn through by the rear driveshaft"
Was shown a split cable....hmmm....Hey ho, lesson learnt.
Trust no one.
