Hi everyone.
Sorry if this has been asked but I have looked and I’ve also tried reading up on it but don’t really understand.
I don’t have a towing licence as I passed my test after the law changed.
What can I tow with the discovery 4? I’m unsure about all the quotes on the net about combined weights and maximum this that and tuther.
If the discos max laiden weight it 3500 kgs then I’m already at the maximum without a trailer?
Can some one please enlighten me with a simple answer.
Many thanks indeed.

The maximum that you can tow is a 750kg trailer even though the combined mass exceeds the 3500kg, in essence making the maximum combined mass 4250kg.

Steve
Surely the Max weight of a D4 is less than 3500Kg , my D3 is 3230 kg ( Its on the VIN plate), not that it affects the 750kg limit for a trailer , which would give max train weight of 3980 kg on my D3. for towing without the BE towing entitlement on ones licence.

So I want to tow my ride on lawn mower. It only weighs about 200 kgs. Do I need to find a trailer with a max limit of 750kgs stamped on the plate?
Then I assume this will be ok. Sorry if I’m sounding stupid but I want to stay on the right side of the law.
Cheers. Steve You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

From reading that link you can drive a car or van with a MAM of up to 3500kg and a trailer up to 750kg OR a trailer over 750kg as long as the MAM including the car is not over 3500kg.
According to my V5 the TDV6 D3 weighs 2590kg.
Maximum permissible mass is 3230kg.
Maximum trailer unbraked weight is 750kg
Maximum braked trailer weight is 3500kg.
Therefore, if the MAM is 3250, you could tow a braked trailer that weighs 750kg, including load. But, you can still only tow a 750kg unbraked trailer regardless of license.
It's all to do with the MAM of the towing vehicle. As the Disco is a heavy beast with a high MAM it restricts the amount you can tow due to license restrictions.
I think that's how I've read it. Very confusing.
So glad I don't have any of these worries, the only good thing to come from having a C+E entitlement! 2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6
