Yeah, I had considered the damage the towbar could do, and am still really in two minds whether to do it or not. Seems like a terrible waste of space when I've got something that needs a home, but perhaps there are too many fragile things in there that I'd rather see kept intact

Like ABS, SERVO, Master Cylinder, ALL Brake Lines..................not really a place to store anything unless well secured down tbh............I use the LHD battrey bracket to secure the Optima.

You've been a member for a number of months now, so you should have some idea of forum etiquette.
Unfortunately, your posts are coming across as argumentative, which is unhelpful to you.
No matter from where in the world you get advice, if the general membership tends to agree (or don't know) they tend to not make unnecessary posts.
