When to put on new boots?
Morning! Got a little bit of a dilemma at the moment. Running GG AT's on the front and GG AT3 on the rear. Front left has worn significantly on the outside, tracking recently done which has seemed to have solved a lot of the vibration and pulling to the left. Both are down to around 5mm along the rest of wheel but have had a few brown pants moment on wet tracks (2.5 ton sledge with a gate approaching is not fun!) The plan is to fit Duratracs on all 4 and the AT3s may appear in the for sale section
Anyway, my question is do i change now or leave the fronts to wear a bit more?

Although the legal minimum UK tread depth is only 1.6mm, research shows that tyres with a 3mm tread had a 25% better performance than those at 1.6mm in wet conditions.
In terms of braking distance this represents an extra 8 metres (25ft). In one test, where a new tyre with a tread depth of 8mm was compared to one with only 1.6mm the braking distance increased by 13 metres (42.25ft)
I aim to change my tyres when they are down to between 3.5 & 4.0 mm, and certainly well before they are down to 3.0 mm.

£690 for all four, £172.50 each, local fitter wanted £207 per tyre
