Where do you put yours?

Having now got officially cheesed off by the pitiful excuse for headlights on my Facelift D4, I'm adding a lightbar. That's all fine and the wiring is under control, but where shall I put the switch inside the car?

I have a genuine LR spotlight switch XKB500080PVJ - you know, the one with a 2 on it - and I thought that might fit just to the left of the steering wheel where there's a funny bit that looks as if it was designed to store £1 coins. Except those coins don't fit....

I've seen; Switches mounted on the main light switch to the R of the steering wheel, switches on an insert to the L of the gear knob, switches in the light panel above the rear view mirror, and or course, switches mounted where that coin holder is.

Which would you go for? Which switch would you use? I don't have any attachment to that LR switch so anything goes really.

(PS. Probably will go for the Stedi ST1K light bar just in case you're interested)

I had/have this problem too! The "correct" location is to the left of the gear selector but it looks very much like an afterthought to me. I bought the D3 switch and facia and planned to install in the D3 location... It didn't fit due to the dashboard changes so my switch is wired up but coiled up and tucked underneath the steering column out of site. I never use it!

The funny bit is actually the internal temp sensor for the climate control.

That "funny bit" is, I believe, the cabin temperature sensor (someone on here corrected me on that same idea).

However ... if it is a temp sensor, where is the one for the passenger side as you can set different temps each side. My son asked this only the other night !

I like it where I have them, they're easy to reach and use.

That looks good Nik. Was there easy room for both switches or did some modification take place?
If you have a link to those switches I'd appreciate it.

Interesting about the coin holder actually being the vent for the temp sensor. Good job I didn't rip it out....

Hi Dave

I got my local trusty Auto Electrical company to do the internal wiring on the car as I was a big chicken at that point, I did all the bracketry and external wiring. He had a few switches and ideas but these are the ones we settled on and where we thought would be best. He didn't seem phased, nor did he charge me the earth for the work so I have to assume it was relatively ok to put them there. I can call him and ask about the switches and even offer to buy a couple and send them up if you can't find any suitable.
