Purchasing advice re MOT suspension advisories
Currently looking at an approved used D4 and checking the MOT history, the latest test had the following advisories:
Nearside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
Offside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
Nearside Front suspension has slight movement at a wishbone pin or bush (2.5.A.1c)
Offside Front suspension has slight movement at a wishbone pin or bush (2.5.A.1c)
Not too worried about the brakes as they can be negotiated in the price howvere no idea on what the suspension repairs would cost.
Also, is this a serious issue, indicative of some deeper problem?
Any advice welcome please.

Even though its only an advisory, sooner or later you will need to either remove wishbones and either replace the bushes or the complete wishbones. I think most people on here would opt to replace the complete unit due to the amount of stripping involved. The wishbones are not crazy expensive but there's a bit of labour involved to say the least. The rear pads are a small issue and only an hours work plus the pads and sensor. I wouldn't be making a big issue of that when it comes to the purchase price. I would however be looking for a substantial reduction for the upcoming work on the front wishbones. I'm not familiar with UK prices for labour etc, but I would guess somewhere between £600 & £800. No doubt someone better advised will be along to correct / confirm this. You will need to budget a little extra for the "known unknowns"!! Plus steering realignments afterwards.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I guess the £450-£750/£600-£800 estimates are for doing both or that per side? I definitely want genuine parts.
Also didn't mention in original post that the stated mileage is 22,406
Should that sort of wear & tear on the wishbones be expected at that mileage?

How do you know these haven’t already been done? I get my advisories sorted out very quickly after an MOT.

£450 for budget arms for both sides
Up to £750 for genuine (cheaper if they are still on the trade programme)
And a few options in between
22k miles is a little low to be expecting to replace them, but they do deteriorate by time too, so if the car is 5/6 years old, then it's about right
On the other hand, it may be an over zealous tester, but these cars do tend to eat wishbone bushesMy D3 Build Thread

Yeah, ask the dealer to fix their POS or discount you for proper kit - OF COURSE you’re going to use original parts...
Remember to add four wheel alignment, too. You want the report if they’re doing it.

Doesn’t approved used come with a 2 year warranty? Check that the wishbones are covered under this.
I’ve had the suspension arms on mine done under warranty (Warranty Direct, not LR Approved) so worth the question.2014 - D4 2010 HSE Nara Bronze

Just to add the all the great advice above, I had awesome fun & games recently with my approved used D4 (there's a thread of mine somewhere on the forum).
The suspension bushes ARE covered by the approved warranty but they have to be classed as failed rather than an advisory before they will consider replacing them. How they come to decide if they are failed or not is beyond me. I guess it's based on the amount of movement. Mine were making an awful racket when going over the smallest of pot-holes but they were still classed as advisory on the MOT so they (the warranty company) wouldn't replace them.
My local stealer quoted £500 just to replace the bushes. If they needed to replace the arms then the bill was £1400
Got the whole lot replaced in the end (arms and all) at a reputable independent in Kent (RCV) for £850 using genuine LR parts.
I would definitely haggle a discount or, better still, get them to do the work as part of the deal.

Agreed.
...and the point I didn't make is that my warranty was about to expire and I'm selling so I had to fork out myself to have them replaced.
I guess if the OP is going to keep the vehicle for longer than two years (and will keep the warranty going with LR or Warranty Direct) then they will be covered. I would still try and have them done as part of the deal

Regarding the Genuine parts.. I think you'll find that you'll get better parts elsewhere. I recently replaced my Front Lower and Rear Upper Suspension arms.
I would highly recommend getting the complete arms from Advance Factors (you will also get an extra 5% off by being a member of this site)
