Nick, tyre companies do have records and I have seen a few, but obviously they keep them a little quite.
A simple test to make a point.
With a correctly inflated tyre, place 4 pieces of A4 paper, front/rear and each side of a tyre, pushing them in towards the tread. Then move the vehicle away without moving the papers. Now you will see a tiny area between the papers where the tyre stood. Basically it is the size of a ladies size 4 shoe, no heel. That is with the vehicle stationary. Go further and when you increase your speed to above 50mph, the tyre expands and the footprint is less, about a ladies size 3. Take it to 100mph and we are down to about a ladies size 2 all due to centrifugal forces. This causes extreme heat, ever seen a racing tyre smoke and they are not carrying 2.7 tonnes. Heat causes problems and repairs can come unstuck. Now I know you are going to say, the repair has a great big round flat sticky thing on the inside, this is fine for a Landy on the farm or even maybe a Escort, but we are talking 2.7 tonnes of fast moving metal and I have not touched on balance and heat caused by in balance.
It is not an offence to sell many things, because products develop faster than the law. Would any of you want to be the 'Case Stated' with a D3 blow out court situation, I wouldn't. At least with A1 tyres, which have not been tampered with by a third party, I know I am covered.
We all buy cars with airbags, did you know that in activation they can injure you quite badly and even cause tempoary deafness. They are approved however.
Need I say more.

Hi
They charge £80 per vehicle(although the guy was moaning it should of been more due to the amount of sealant D3 tyres used!!) and they are nationwide.
Anyone wanting info here is web address - www.supersealgatwick.co.uk I have been using for past 3 years and tyres last longer and never lose pressure.

There are indeed differences of opinion on this, but I have no problems repairing a puncture if it's not near the sidewall and the repair is done properly; i.e., the tire is removed and it is sealed from the inside. Mushroom repair plugs are popular with some folks, I haven't tried one.
I wouldn't repair a puncture on a tire I planned on using at very high speeds (racetrack speeds) but since the Disco 3 isn't allowed on my local track no worries in my mind.
Now the 4" slash I got in my sidewall when offroading a month ago... That's not repairable '05 LR3 HSE

Ducati, first tyre laws in europe are slightly different to the USA, your Fed-Regs do not have this clause:
UK Construction & Use Regs state, IT IS ILLEGAL to use a tyre that has a defect that MIGHT cause damage to the road surface or to a person on or in the vehicle or using the road. It goes a lot further, but not to bore you. If the tyre burst because it is a 'V' rated tyre, it could be a problem. Having said all that it is quite legal in the UK to fix a tyre with a 'mushroom, hole patcher, but I would not for the sake of a few quid.

About $225 USD. My current conundrum is I don't want another Goodyear--I despise the Wrangler HPs as their longevity is crap and they are worthless offroad. I can't source an all-terrain or MT in the US, so I'm stuck either buying 5 new Michelin's and still having problems offroad, or sourcing some 18" rims and buying one of the available mild (and oversized) ATs.
I'm still waffling on this, and I need to make up my mind as we're off on holiday in about a month, and I should probably have a spare!
On the tire plugging--it's not a legal issue to me. We have all sorts of laws to protect us from ourselves that I routinely ignore. As I said, I don't operate the Disco at speeds where a V-rated tire is necessary, so I just don't see the issue with plugging. On my motorcycle, never. On my sports car, never. On the Disco? Sure.
But not my sidewall tear
A funny photo I took for another site (I was a little mad at my cut Goodyear):

Thanks to Miguel for giving us a bit of a plug. (no pun intended).
I don’t blame people for being cautious because frankly, the old sealants that the tyre industry used in the past were very poor. With reference to a couple of earlier comments, Superseal is chemically inert and does not chemically interact with the tyre in any way. Therefore with Superseal installed, there is no effect on any guarantees or warranties on the vehicle or the vehicles tyres. Once installed, we guarantee that your tyre will not suffer deflation from a tread area wound caused by a object up to 6mm in diameter, for the entire legal life of your tyres. If the sealant should fail, we will pay for the repair or buy you a brand new tyre. Superseal does not seal sidewall damage as the sidewall is the structural part of the tyre and not safe to repair. I could go on about the many extra benefits such as it being water soluble, controls blow-outs, ensure you keep your perfect tyre pressure, seals minor rim leaks or the large amount of very satisfied Disco, Range Rover, Defender etc drivers I have sealed but if you would like any further information, please see www.supersealgatwick.co.uk. Thanks. Brian Rhodes

I was told about 80% of accidents where airbags deployed resulted in a fatality. One of the commonest causes was drivers crossing hands as the bag went off. The hand punches you in the jaw pushing the jaw up and back, severing the spinal cord DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

That number is bunk. No way 80% of collisions where airbags deploy result in a death.

Just over 3500 people die in road traffic crashes in the UK annually. This figure has been similar ironically for about 11 years now. No way are 80% of the deaths due to airbags. However, there are several injuries caused by airbags when they go off.
Ducati, try taking that picture in the UK , even with a toy gun and you would be looking from behind bars iron within seconds?

Pelyma, logic tells me that 80% would be so unacceptable there would be a public outcry. I would like to see that book?
