£350 for an oil change !!!

Have done just 5k in 12 months since last full service at local LR dealer, phoned them up for the cost of next service, explained that i had only done 5k since last one & they quoted £450, then came down to 350 when i queried, asked what they were going to do answer was a bit vague but basically it was a oil & filter change and a bit of a check around. Needless to say i have taken it to a local LR specialist and had the same work done for £68. if i'd covered 15k 300 odd quid would of been ok but a crazy amount for only 5k miles

Fuel filter, oil filter, oil plug, air filter = £76.56 (inc vat main LR stealers) Castrol Magnetic 5/30 @ 4 litres (Halfords) £23.99, you'll need 6 litres by the way.

Not sure how much the pollen filter is, someone will tell yer.

Reset the service clock, budget on around £30 by LR dealer. Get someone local to do the service using the "how to guides" found on this site for "how to change the fuel filter & how to do an oil change", then present him to the stealer to have the "warranty" inspection done, should allow around 1 hour at £75 plus vat. Thumbs Up

This was for a 90k "B" service. My man also changed the front disc/pads/caliper clips/wear sensor(LR OEM £131.36 plus vat), cleaned the rears, front and rear diff oil change (£14.01 plus vat per litre, you'll need 1.6 litres) Whistle

Personally I cant see how you can have a B service done for £68 if the OEM parts alone are around £76, I assume its out of warranty! Shocked

They probably never included the air filter - as it is not scheduled to be replaced. I think the quote was just for an oil change, rather than a B service.

I had the same with an Audi A3 a couple of years ago, same price too @£300 for oil & filter and a "check over", IIRC it only took about 3½ litres of oil too. At the time they were charging £116 per hour for labour Evil or Very Mad (I wish I could get away with charging that much!)

At least on a D3 there's a lot more stuff to check. Mileage-wise though, it doesn't matter if you've done 15'000 or 150 miles, as much as it irks, its still the same amount of work to actually carry out the service schedule.

I bet for £68 they ONLY changed the oil and filter. have a look on the downloadable service sheet on here, there is much more to it!

the pollen, air and fuel filters were all replaced on the last service 12 mths ago when i had 41k on the clock (now 46k), its a 05 car so out of warranty but this guy has all the kit to do in warranty servicing up to D3. at the end of day its only done 5k so why should i pay for wear and tear items that are designed to do at least 15k without being looked at to be serviced. he also took all the wheels off and checked all the brakes.

He has put in synthetic 5w30 oil in didn't ask the make, i know LR recommends 0w30 but we only do 5-6k pa so its only got to last max 6k - unless of course anyone knows differently
