Protecting Spare

I am going to swap my std spare for a full size alloy, but have seen all of the posts re the scallys nicking the spares by cutting the cable.

Just wondered if anyone had come up with a protector for the cable to stop the scrotes from getting to it.

Didnt want to tax the grey matter if someone had a design that works!!

Thinking of moving my spare onto a rear carrier with locking wheel nuts, that should stop them.

tends to make the job fairly expensive though does look good, and far more practical to get to than grovelling around to get to the spare.

just make sure when you wind the spare up, that one of the wheel spokes is over/covering the cable, that way you shouldnt be able to cut it. If you leave it visible through the spokes, then it can be got at.

Thanks Al

What I was thinking was something that effectively stopped all access to the mechanism without having to worry about the position of the spokes, as the RRS alloys on mine have lots of gaps unlike the D3 ones.

Almost like the hard covers that can go over the spare rim on the back of most 4x4s, with some kind of lock mechanism - meaning you would have to lower the spare before you could access the lock and then remove the cover.

Basically to reduce the ease of theft, and also protect the tyre and rim from the elements.

Just to let you guys know that I've bought an 'Undercover' Commercial name removed
It's a fantastic bit of kit and cost me less than £30 on ebay! It's easy to fit and keeps your wheel and tyre clean.
Check out the following link: Link removed

Hello and Welcome.

Those covers seem to be available from one or two places including some main dealers. Two designs and a previous post hinted that one fitted much better than the other.

Just a thought, you are not connected to the company by any chance are you ? Just that you only live up the road from the company you popped an link in for Whistle

I've not had a problem with mine - it fits fine. I live about 12 miles away from JMC and went to see them to collect it.
