Prospeed rear ladder -Treating myself |
|
I've decided to treat myself to a prospeed rear ladder but just want a bit of advice on the finish.
Is the raptor coat really worth the extra £100?
Thanks

Be prepared to have difficulty removing the anchor screws which hold the plastic moulding which houses the number plate lights. They tend to corrode and seize in the anchor nuts. The nuts which are mounted in the plastic moulding then just turning. If they are not too corroded, it’s possible to lever the nuts out, and hopefully remove the screws before cleaning up and glueing the anchor nuts back into the moulding.

I thought prospeed were supposed to be making the best stuff. Makes me worry that even their cheap finish, which is more than most other company's, is pretty rubbish.
Any other recommendations for a decent ladder for £300 ish

Mine was 4 yrs old when re-coated & is used regularly. In terms of design it's far superior to anything else on the market, the stirrup at the bottom makes a big difference Paul.

I recently talked with a guy who runs a off-road specialized shop and independent garage (mostly LR I think) in western Finland. He said that none of the kit really stays rust free (at least here). The expectancy for the original coat is 3-7 years depending on manufacturer, how much you bash it in the woods, amount of road salt, etc. when something starts to look bad he has it first sand blasted and then hot-dip galvanized which takes care of the problem but makes it all gray of course by default. One can then paint the HDG treated parts if one wants.

Hughmartin - any knowledge on where I could get new fasteners and inserts for those 4? Luckily I have managed to take the insert out, but they are still attached to the screws.
