Problems replacing windscreen
Got a crack in my windscreen, so need a replacement (rain sensing/heated).
Anyone had problems having theirs replaced - other than ensuring that the A Trim Clips are replaced?
Not out to irritate fitters by telling them their job, but do want to ensure it's done properly

The fitters may want to remove your wipers to fit the new screen. Make sure that they either use a puller to remove them from the shaft or devise some method to pull them off without resorting to twisting (even slightly). The reason? The fit is a spline fit but it is white metal to steel. Any rotational movement will damage the spline effect and you'll end up with two useless wipers ( as I did) the first time I used them after windscreen replacement. When I took the arms off to check them, they were two smooth bore holes and slack as a yak on the splines from the motor.
In the good old days before the bean counters got involve, the spline was normally steel to brass or bronze which took a great deal of effort to strip. The current fitting relies on the fit being tight and not disturbed by any twist.

Had mine replaced recently and no problems at all.
Previous fit was poor, side plastics masticed on instead of using clips
But good service from auto glass no leaks.

Had both D3s screens replaced by local (Inverness) Autoglass branch, no problems. Only hassle was I had to take off the RAI & refit it but apart from that all's well. Non OEM screen but I can't see any difference, even comparing one with t'other with vehickles side by side.

All sorted...
Great job of replacing the windscreen, and they replaced all the a-pillar side trim too and used genuine glass
However, apparently they tape the glass to the a pillars whilst the glue resin sets (I paraphrase)... My car's in great condition and they assumed it was very new. However, it had a bit of a re-spray on the roof a while back when some kids fired an air-rifle at the car... Removing the tape caused the lacquer to lift up, causing a sort of bubble under the paint...
Anyway, they paid for the re-spray. Apparently, they always ask if a car's been resprayed if it's older (so they use a different technique to hold the screen). They didn't ask me in this case, accepted liability and paid the bodyshop I use directly.
Think it was an honest mistake and they put it right - and the windscreen doesn't leak! 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
