Problems with Headlight! Any help much appreciated!!

Hi,

I have a 2010 D4 and over the last month the left headlight has been quite tempermental. Literally sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! There doesn't seem to be a pattern or any logic to it! I had a freind of mine have a look who is a mechanic and he thought it seemed like a loose connection that he played with - then it worked for about 2 weeks with no issues. Then recently it's started again!

The same chap has had a look and he think there is power going to thwnblack box thing attached to the inside of the car, but then not going to the lights itself. Is this a known problem? And what is the black box thing that controls the headlights called? Is it's something I can replace myself or back to LR?

Any help MUCH appreciated!!

Thanks

The whole headlight or only the high beam?
Xenon or Halogen? if Xenon, is the color of the light different from the other one?
