Good question... but I don't know I never turned them on.
That will be an option though I'll mention if the configuration thing is a red herring. Until they look for a setting in IDS they are not sure as they've never needed to look.

well you never know LR, a bit of random build going on from time to time? considered the bizarre posibilty that they've built it with the adaptive ECU in it and your flickering is a sympton of it trying to do it's startup dance thing? and theeeeennn......???

Mine is a MY06 with factory fitted bi-xenons.
They do exactly what you've described when started 'cold'. No flickering/flashing in between.
As you mentioned in a later post, they also emit a quiet but fairly high-pitched buzz when turned on from cold but as they brighten up over the next few seconds, the noise goes away.
Hope this helps,

Happens on manual, auto and if you use the LR button on the key fob to turn on the lights.
@PaulP - That's the normal state of affairs.
Does anyone know if IDS has to tell the D3 now that they are fitted or maybe there's a different relay if you have Xenons fitted ?

They have been working fine for three years. Then both headlamp units show the same 'symptom'
They also light up fine and stay lit.
So I assume not... too much of a coincidence.

I did think of going for a TATA Safari mate... but the dealer is too far away and I never had time to go see them.
I am blinking yeah... blinkin confused as to why this is blinkin happening
Hopefully Shukers will get their new IDS rig working again for tomorrow or someone clever will know whats causing it.

What we all need is a gadget that plugs in to the OBD port and has a GSM sim in it. TFC could then remotely diagnose and fix most of the problems we have without ever going near a garage. Torq Tune via GSM would be ideal (if a little slow).

Do a search, mine (07 MY) flash on and off sometimes, always have done - no problem
Still get the change in light colour as they warm up.

Simon,
I posted exactly the same comment as you when I first got my 08MY.
I had an 05 'S' with Xenons, that never flickered in their life.
The same lights transferred into an 06MY SE never flickered.
The same lights transferred into the 08MY SE flicker on-off, one side then the other between 2 & 4 times (I think) before settling (warming up?).
When switched on when still warm they don't do it.
The Halogens on the 08MY did not flicker.
If you start the engine, idle for about 3 secs, then switch the lights on they normally will not flicker.
My conclusion is that there ain't enough volts first thing in the morning. (does the 08MY have a different battery??)
So, to cut a long story short ... yes, mine does exactly the same.

Dave / 90BHP - thats interesting. Will let Shukers know and ask them to check the voltage - maybe relay related as I suggested above ??? Will get them to look into this too - unless Nick is reading this and can check on in his parts bible
Maybe it is a voltage thing, what I thought too as she's still not been on any sort of long run yet still at less than 100 on the clock.
Will try the staring up before switch on tomorrow when I take the little one to school
And yes - does look rather funky if your not expecting it.
cheers
