I've been dropping the kids at school a lot recently and notice that about 70% of the time the tailgate wont unlock when I press the button on the door when the engine is running.
What I find is the drive away locking activated the boot lock (correctly), get to school, park in drop off area, son jumps out but cant open the boot even though I've pressed the button on the door to unlock. I have to switch off engine, which unlocks the doors, then restart engine.
This happens about 70% of the time. Am I being thick and missing something, or is there a fault somewhere. It only happens in this scenario. Boot always unlocks when I go to it with engine off, which is maybe 4 or 5 times a day with work, so not a sticking actuator. Equally door unlock switch always works on the door when I unlock the passenger doors when I use keyless entry.
Any clues what to point he dealer to - no doubt it will work perfectly when there
cheers

Car has to be in Park or Neutral... If you are in Drive or Reverse (assuming you're an auto) the boot won't open 26 and on the 4th LR..

Even if mine is in park or neutral my tailgate still won't open. I have to turn the engine off. Been like this from day one.People tell me my car at 3L is not good for the environment but the other 6 engines I look after are 78L and nobody complains about them.

Tried unlocking it? Because the car locks when you go above a certain speed the boot won't open if it is locked so when you stop and yes you have to put it into park/ neutral then push the unlock so people can open the boot
That's how mine works

As I understand it, you may have 2 features blocking access to the boot with the engine running.
One is the drive-away locking. If activated, you need to unlock the car to get acccess to the boot. Unlocking is through either the bottom (on mine - MY10 - it is located on the front doors) or by opening one of the front doors.
The other is that in certain circumstances the car blocks access to the boot. On mine, I need to put the gear selector in P (it will not open in N, not even with the parking brake applied).
I know I need to unlock it, may be being thick but not that thick
Tried it this morning. Wouldn't unlock until I had it in P (N didn't work). Handbrake was off, but my foot on brake. Sure I didn't have to do that on the D3.
Another mystery solved I think (MY14 by the way). Thanks for the help TDV6 HSE Lux (2014MY)

As I said before. Mine will only unlock when the engine is turned off. Tried it in park, neutral, pressing the unlock button twice and opening the drivers door but it still only unlocks when the engine is off. People tell me my car at 3L is not good for the environment but the other 6 engines I look after are 78L and nobody complains about them.
MY13, with the engine running has to be in Park, Nuetral and it won't open.
