Problem with TRW Low Dust Pads |
|
I was unhappy with the amount of brake dust on my wheels so after reading various posts on here I fitted TRW low dust pads to my MY16 D4 (Front and rear).
I have just had it in for a service and first MOT. Unfortunately I got a phone call and video from the dealer telling / showing me that all four of the front pads were delaminating from the backing plates. As you can imagine I was very shocked with this as they had only done approx 12 - 13000 miles. I've Spoken to AF about them because the pads came with a two year warranty and I've only had them on for 14 months, they said that it sounds as though they have been overheated, however the also said to return them and they will send them back to TRW for evaluation and if it's decided that it's a manufacturing fault they will refund my money.
I've had D3's and D4's for more than 10 years and have never seen this type of fault before (Always used Ferodo pads previously)
Apart from the money aspect it could be pretty serious if one of the pads became detached; no brakes on one side or a locked wheel maybe?
Has anyone else had similar problems and also returned the pads to TRW, if so what was the outcome?
Cheers, SJ

I have the same pads both front and rear. Have been on now for 30.000 km without problems.

Was it a main dealer?
Their videos are sometimes a bit OTT in an effort to drum up some extra work.
I had one telling me my front lower wishbones needed replacing. The D4 had covered 20k at the time and apart from a few pot holes hadn’t seen any rough stuff. I sort a 2nd opinion which confirmed what I already new, they were talking a load of old bull !!
Of course ignore everything I’ve said if the video does show the pads are knackered Discovery 4 HSE

Got any pics of the pads?
Ive seen truck pads break up/delaminate/fall apart but never car ones.

EBC greenstuff are also very good and low to no dust on the wheels, sadly twice the price.

**** I just paid a fortune to ship a set to Aus as they’re about the only ceramic I can get for the 3L. I really hope they don’t give me issues 🙁
