Problem when engine cold

I have noticed recently that when the Disco is first started and I drive to the end of my road and drop the clutch to stop at the junction and change down from 2nd to 1st, the engine judders and the red battery light comes on as if the car is about to stall. This tends to be worse when the weather is very cold and clears after about 1 mile of driving.

Is this a normal issue on the Disco V6 diesel or have I got a problem. I have had a burning from my clutch ( it is one in the VIN range with a potential problem but my local dealer says he will not repair under warranty as he cannot replicate the problem) and wondered if the 2 things are linked.

Thanks

Steve
