Premature brake pad warning. |
|
My brake pad warning came on yesterday, which took me a little by suprise as I checked the pads after Yarwell and there was lots of material remaining.
Had a closer look today, and realised why the warning has come on when there is still about 3mm on the pad. The front discs are very worn, with a considerable lip on the outside edge. The pads have worn around this lip to the extent that the warning wire has touched the disc where the lip has cut into the edge of the pad.
I suppose I could get away with another couple of thousand miles, but as its brakes and the discs are obviously on the last gasps of life, I booked her in for attention. I would do it myself, but no time this week, and caravan holiday next week.
Front discs have lasted 95000 miles which is not too bad

Strange that ...i checked mine the other day and about 5 mm left on them front and rear.
In dealers for a service today (45000) and i was expecting the call !!!
Sure enough ..front and rear are about 90% worn and front disks have grooves on them.
All pads front and rear , and front disks £621.54
Just pads all round..front and rear ..no front disks..£342.
Neadless to say i will be doing them myself. G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

What!!!!! Even the Brembo pads would ony account for £100, from memory std pads are about £120-150 for the full set - are they trying to charge you 4hrs labour or somthing to change the pads???? Cheers

About £115 from Nick at Flea bay rates for front discs and pads . . .
That's a lot of labour. You could buy a trolley jack, torque wrench, 24v buzz gun, axle stands and still be quids in !! "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
