Possible Transfer Box Oil Leak?

Evening All,

I was under the D3 looking for more jobs to add to the list when I noticed that there is an oil leak that appears to be coming from the front Transfer Box (see images below).

There is also oil on one half of the sump that looks like oil splatter from oil falling on the prop. I am not sure if these are two separate leaks or the same one. Does this suggest Transfer Box output oil seal failure?

I'd welcome your considered opinions as always.

Thanks

Iain

Very best thing to do is clean it all off with brake cleaner, then recheck again in a week or so.
In my truck mechs mind a leak is a trickle of oil what you have is more like oil misting and not the end of the world.

Hi LD

Thanks for the reply...I will try that once I have the car back together. The sump could be misting and might even be over spray from the copious amounts of Free Off I have been using on the suspension parts - so good shout on that.

The Transfer box seems a little more heavy in residue. When I run my finger over it it feels more like a grease base than an oil base i.e. more viscous.

However, maybe not worth worrying about for now unless it gets worse.

Cheers
