Poor V8 Fuel Consumption
Since going on Desert Storm in Morrocco my V8 has averaged 14.3 mpg, it used to average 16.6. It was running very badly when it came back. I have had it in the main dealer three times, including an early 30,000 mile service to try and sort it out. They replaced the EGC valve which made it run better, but the consumption has remained bad. The dealer maintains it is in within limits. Can anyone suggest anything (apart from I should have had the diesel!)

Have the dealer look at the air flow meter on the car. Also, have a look at the air filter and see if it's blocked or very dirty...this will definately have a detrimental effect on fuel economy.

Thanks LRtuning, I will check these, although surely the air filter is changed at the 30k service, but I will check it all the same.

Stuck in Sport mode?
Seriously - you got 16+ out of yours? I'm astonished and jealous. If I make 14+, it's because I'm *not* in sport mode and really trying... "There is a road from the eye to the heart that does not go through the brain" - G.K Chesterton

I only get 16+ on the open road highway driving. I think your mph estimator was broken BEFORE you went to Morocco, and is just now working properly. I certainly would be happy to get 14+ or - driving normally around where I live. It's usually less. '06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

Maybe I had my rose tinted shades on! Perhaps i will have to live with these figures.
I am at the moment changing the air filter and have got a 250 mile motorway trip in the morning, so I will reset the trip and see what I get.

Have some "fun" doing it...
1. Keep your aircon off
2. Don't exceed 120k/70mph
3. Don't use sport mode
4. Draft like it's the indy 500 and your life depends on it

OK, removed air filter, it didn't look too bad, but changed it anyway, Air box was full of fine dust, so vacuumed it out.
Did 100 miles driving like an angel, but motorway was busy and it returned 20.4 mpg
Did some off roading that knocked the average down to 14ish mpg
Drove the 100 miles home fairly normally and it now reads 17.6 mpg
