Ireland 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Maya GoldDiscovery 3
poor milage in 06 S D3

Hi, I know that this topic has been done before but my D3 auto is now over 10k miles and I'm driving 120 mile as a daily commute but keeping the revs below 2000; speed below 70 mph and all other suggestions have not improved my miles per gallon figures which is 23.5 mpg. Its now getting really costly, but I've had so much fun on and off-road that i don't want to change. Will turbo-chipping help? What else should I try.

Mine's around the 10000 mile mark and I'm not getting any better.

In fact I just put half a tank in tonight and groaned when I saw the last half fill up had been p***ed away at the grand old rate of 19mpg Big Cry

Auto + 7 mile commute + Cold Weather + odd Sand Mode use ... a bad mix for mpg Sad

The only time I've been able to get such bad MPG on mine is when towing a big trailer, offroading, or going a bit, err, fast, especially with a headwind. Was getting 21 with cc set at 85 with what felt like a strong headwind and my expo rack on the way to the lakes last week (with over 100kg of stuff in the back too). Quite happily returns around 30 - 33MPG gently cruising around 50 - 55MPH.

There's quite a drastic change in MPG between 55 and 65-70. I can get over 30mpg tootling at 55 but more fun results in about 27ish. Currently 24 in a "borrowed" Auto.

Sorry Ron but my fuel has been recorded in a spreadsheet from date of purchase (31 Jan 2006) and my figures are higher than what you seem to be getting. I do drive about the city a fair bit and see the consumption rate increase but am happy when I have to visit the coast and travel via the motorway and see a vast improvement (speeds 110-115 kph).

Here is a capture from my MS Excel spreadsheet showing all data to date.

In your case, I would take a trip to the dealer and get a check of software and monitor the results.

If Ron wasn't depressed about his MPG I think letting the secret out about the Aussie fuel prices will have really pushed him over the edge.

People as me what consumption I get and as I'm from the UK and used to fuel prices there my answer is usually "like I care". Very Happy

Cheers, Steve

I have found that driving about 75mph on motorways i can see 30mpg ..as soon as i hit a town ....down it goes ...and never seems to come back up.

I too have been keeping a record (for work and expense use)

Averaging about 25mpg

90% driving on motorways @75-80 mph
and rest around town.

Manual with about 1/4 tonne of tools in the back.

(The one with 19mpg was the lakes offroading ) CLICK ON PICTURE TO MAKE IT BIGGER AND READABLE..

After 9800 miles for Mrs DSL's D3 I'm averaging 23.5mpg, got 30.7 on run from Stirling to Usk at 60mph using cruise. My D3 is getting 26.7mpg after 9100 miles. All actual fuel vs distance, not the trip reading.

My Auto is at just over 15,000 miles and I was averaging around 22 MPG even when light footed. Since new it had a strange noise between 40mph and 55mph so it was back at the dealer the last 2 weeks to finally get it sorted. They diagnosed that the front differential was at fault and replaced it (under warranty). The noise has gone! Also noticed that the fuel consumption has now jumped to 30 MPG. Seems much more responsive too.

Wow, these are impressive numbers even if they are supposed to be an issue for a TDV6 owner; if you were to compare it to a Discovery Series II V8 (petrol) auto. I am getting 12 miles per UK gallon on LPG. Rolling Eyes

Pls don't call me an environmental vandal.... Whistle

If you'd only see the light and upgrade you would see a massive saving on fuel. I can't get worse than 17km/100l in my D3 v8, on a real trip it's 13l/100KM which is 18MPG.
