any point in changing my '12 D4 to a '16 D4?
My '12 D4, which I've owned since May'13 from 12k miles, now with 85k miles has had the major belt service, recent pads/discs and has a full LRSH. The only issue is the ULEZ when I drive through London. But, is it really worth upgrading to the last of the '16 models? I've seen a 20k mile HSE at £34k. I'm not aware of any spec differences but any views appreciated.

Apparently....
The 16MY and newer had a modified crank over the original 3.0 engines, and is less prone to failure
I changed from MY12 to MY16 for the Euro 6 engine, living where the OP is it could be a good move.

But you would never get the difference back when faced with the higher depreciation.
I guess it depends on why you want to change. If its purely cost, i think it would be hard to make the numbers work. Guess it depends how many time you may go into the ULEZ when it comes in.

i used to work in London near Park Royal, i worked out that if i still worked there it would cost me approximately an extra £250 a month in ULEZ fees to drive there (public transport wasnt an option for me due to shift timings etc)
so if you look at it on an annual basis, the benefits are 50% less road tax (£555 for a MY12 or £235 for MY16), and ULEX compliance in the MY16 saves a further £250 totalling roughly £3000 pa on a MY16 over a MY12. (based on commuting to within the ULEZ 5 days a week)
Thats quite a difference IMO, however how much money will be lost on the depreciation of a MY16 against that £3230 annual saving on commuting/tax costs?
i personally would go for the MY16 if you can afford it and arent too fussed about depreciation compared to length of ownership
p.s. if my maths is wrong then please blame my maths teacher from 1985

Think you will find a MY16 smoother, more refined and pulls better over your MY12, as well as offering significant more mpg. (Well mine did)
With the LEZ again altering next March, think the prices for older non compliant Diesels is going to drop much sharper than Eu6 ones.
Prices in Landrover world have been in steep decline last couple of months, so older dealer stock can be over priced at the momentD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

Won’t change mine unless I have too ( touches wood ) however very much doubt it would be another D4. I’ve lost a packet so far in depreciation. Plan for the future is the Mrs gets a new car and we keep the D4 for towing and load lugging duties.

I went from an 8 speed 2012 to a 2016 Graphite and would totally recommend it. Don’t know why, maybe the colour didn’t help, but I never loved my first D4, but absolutely love my 2016 one. Silly little things like shaped mirrors just make it and the graphite trimmings just really finish it off and I am sure there is a difference in the mapping, definatley seems to have more get up and go.Joined the BMWX5 45e group
