Unless they have specifically switched off PM notifications, the recipient will receive a popup notification AND an e-mail with the full PM contents in, so they will know you've send them a PM - the rest of the DISCO3 community don't need to know!
Thanks for your co-operation.

I think folks read them in the email notification and don't always log in to open them via the site (I'm guilty of this anyway ) 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

You could always go round their house Dunc...knock on the door and tell them they have a PM 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

great idea DG - can you post up their addresses for me
better still - perhaps they could be barred from logging on if they have too many unread PMs Duncan

Dunc,
Just because it looks unread doesn't mean that they haven't read it. Don't forget when you get sent a PM you get that PM in an email as well as in your PM inbox. So people can read the email and therefore your PM but without reading the PM in their inbox.
I hope that makes sense! D3 HSE MY05 Auto

If it's been read elsewhere and not replied to, then perhaps the recipient felt it didn't need a reply?
You can always PM/email again (and not tell the rest of us) if you feel a reply is necessary. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Well you don't. But that's just the same as most email. just the same as leaving someone a voicemail, you don't know when or if they have listened to it. I think we live in an instant age and expect everyone to respond instantly, but we aren't all like that. It just the same with posting on the forum - inc saying PM sent. You don't know if the other person has read that or not. PM Sent messages serve no purpose as far as I can see. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

i dont necessarily want a reply - just want confirmation (or not) that message has been read. if its been read and not replied to then I dont need to resend.
I always thought that if a message was still in your outbox it hadnt been opened by the recipient. If the recipient deletes the message without reading it, does it still stay in my outbox forever (or until I delete it)? Duncan
