I know wheels and body panels have been done but has anyone tried doing the exterior door handles? If so how have they held up? I think I'm going to do all my letters and was thinking of turning the handles black too to match.

I have considered this too.
The answer I got about how easy it was to remove it from wheels made me think again....a decent bit of elbow grease is all that's needed to remove it....I decided the heavy traffic a door handle gets would mean I'd be forever re-applying it.....
If someone has done it,and it lasted,I'd reconsider "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I had this on a previous car and will be doing it on the D3 within the next couple of weeks.
Plastidip holds up just fine if you apply it carefully enough and with enough coats.
Keep in mind that Plastidip was primarily designed to be used to applying to tools as a non-slip material for the handle so it does stand up to a good amount of pull/twist treatment.

Hi Skep, How are you planning on doing the letters, will you leave them on or will you have to remove then refit?
Thanks

Definitely leave them on.
I did mine. Simply mask off the area ... leave at least 1 inch around the letters to give you something to peel off. Plastidip the entire rectangle. Then just before it dries completely you peel off the excess... it comes away quite nicely if you apply nice thick coatings. All you will have left then is to pick at (using a toothpick or tweezers) and peel the excess from inside the "closed" letters..ie. the A, D, R, O and 6.
Very easy to do
There are a few videos on youtube showing how to plastidip emblems etc if you want to watch how it's done.Dennis

Did mine last weekend, really easy to do, I just got a bit eager and first applied too much in one go so it ran then tried to remove this run and messed a couple of letters up. But just pulled it off and started again, there is still one letter that I'm not completely happy with but will mask it up and do it again at some point. Busy for the next couple of days but planning on doing the handles before the weekend so will take some pictures.

Cheers Amossis, Go down your local DIY store and get some disposable dust sheets, that's all I used then cut some holes in them where the badges were and masking taped around them using the blue low tack tape.
Marcus, the can states 20 mins between coats, I did it when it was warm last weekend and only needed 5 mins between coats then left it about 15 mins (just time for a coffee) and peeled it straight off. I had to redo my 'L' and here is what peeled off. The rest though needs about 4 hours to fully harden.
Honestly you can't really go wrong, worst case you peel it all off and you have back what you had before.

Thanks Skep - I'll get a can off eBay then - looks like I can't go wrong (probably shouldn't have said that )
Russell, no literally just mask off in a big rectangle around all the letter a as in the first picture, then it just pulls off, I tried it on the kitchen worktop first!! It comes away at the joints, so anywhere there's a gap it just pulls away, for the middle of the 'O' 'D' etc and to get any that don't pull away properly, use a cocktail stick. It hardens after 4 hours and seems pretty stuck now!
Marcus I'd go to Plastidip.co.uk £11 for black and at least you know it's the right stuff and not spray paint!'16 Volvo XC90 R Design Bursting Blue (Vera)

looks good .....
As they seem black underneath ......
has anyone tried just sanding the top colour off with the correct finishing paper....
I have often wondered about it .....as the sides wouldn't be noticed
Petty sure it would look good but have no ideas on what papers to use D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
