Picking up 12V supply when engine is running. |
|
G'day all. I want to connect an hourmeter to the new Disco4 to indicate hours run as an indicator of engine use. I can mount the hourmeter OK in the area immediately in front of the driver in the engine bay (under a black cover) but need to know where I can pick up a 12V positive supply which is operational when the engine is running (or when the ignition is on, either would be OK). Does anyone know a suitable connection location for this? Maybe from the engine bay fuse box?? It needs to be there only when the engine is operational, not permanent 12v off the battery.
On "older" vehicles finding this was easy, but with the Disco I'm not so sure....
The hourmeter only draws around 100 mA so current drain should not be an issue.
It will be interesting to compare hours run vs scheduled servicing intervals.
If anyone has an idea, please let me know.
Regards, from Adelaide.
Geoff.

Yup, there is a fuse in the engine bay fusebox which only goes live when the engine is running. On a RHD car it's on the row nearest the NSF wing, about 5 or 6 along counting from the windscreen. I found it with a meter when I wanted a supply for the split charging system.
