Should pick up new Disco on Saturday! |
|
Really looking forward to it. It's the first Disco I've owned. The first 4x4 also. We are trading in a 2007 BMW 530d Touring.
We tested the XC90, X5 and Discovery, coming to the conclusion that the Discovery was very nice, and the others all a bit disappointing. The XC90 was old technology. A bit slow and the engine a bit noisy. The X5 was fabulous to drive, but had very disappointing ride quality. In fact, I'm a bit fed up with BMW's ride quality overall. Our 530d is a lovely car and great to drive, but after a while you get tired of its fidgety ride. It's supposed to be a luxury car, for goodness sake! Having said that, its ride outclasses my friend's Passatt, for example...
Anyway, back on topic. We loved the ride quality and space, and the engine and gearbox combination of the Disco. So, we ordered:
Baltic Blue XS
Almond/Nutmeg
Electric Seats/Armrest package
Sunroof
Towbar
Surround Cameras
Side steps (to help the kids and wife climb in)!
Photo to follow. The dealer is supposed to be sending me one before we pick it up, but I'm not holding out much hope. Our delivery has been a bit delayed - the car was subject to random quality control, and delayed just over a week.
My hobby is Renault 5s (the first shape) - I have several and I run the biggest R5 site in the English speaking world! So... I ordered a personalised reg. I won't give the whole plate but it's:
RN05 xxx!
Looking forward to having that too.

Good luck with the new car, and I hope all goes well.
I have driven loads of similar vehicles over the past few years at a National event, and a couple of years ago I went with the intention of wanting to dislike the D4 (my own D3 had just had another "moment"), and hoping that there would be something there that would beat it. There wasn't! Despite numerous competitors from Europe and the Far East, there was nothing that got close to the all round ability, and I mean nothing.
The problem is that now you've got one, it will seep into you blood (obviously like the Renault 5 has!).

That looks really smart!
Is that an interesting grille or is it just a trick of the light? It just looks a bit different
Edit: Just looked again and I think it is a trick of the light. The colour coded part of the lower grill looked darker than the rest of the car so I wondered if it was like the new HSE luxury edition or whatever it is called. I've just proven myself wrong though.
I'll get my coat.... Bri

Well, it's arrived!
Loving it. It's so comfortable and competent. I love the space and the design of the interior, and it looks smart!
So far I have driven 150 miles in it. I used Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection polish on it.
Still nervous of such a new car!
A couple of small niggles: we were told that an XS with electric seats would have memory seats, but it does not. The steering wheel is also only manually adjustable. A bit of a pain as wife and I are such different heights!
Also there is a wind whistle from the driver's door. it's not present on the passenger door, so I suspect it's a small fault rather than a design issue. Hopefully can be fixed.
I'm looking forward to my summer holiday! We'll be towing a large folding camper to Switzerland.

good colour
in response to your PM, sorry, no stickers left
the lack of memory seats and auto dipping wing mirrors is something I miss from the HSE, but the rest of the HSE bits I dont miss at all.... Duncan
