Photos appearing flat

Hi Martin, there seems to be something weird happening to posted photos, when they are uploaded to the forum gallery they appear quite flat. Here is the same photo, the first one uploaded to the forum gallery and the second one to my own server. Is it just that the forum is recompressing the jpg? Confused

What colour space are the files saved as?

sRGB is what you should use for the web - but a lot of software (adobe) and some cameras use either ProPhoto or aRGB which has a different dynamic range.

Your server probably has a converter to change the space on the fly.

I've just loaded the two pictures into photoshop and the one is prophoto and the other untagged RGB.

I've converted the more dynamic one to sRBG and uploaded it again.

Embarassed Martin, it's totally my fault, as Mark has correctly pointed out the colour space is wrong in the original photo. For the web I always work in sRGB and when I open the file in Photoshop it is in sRGB but I have just changed to an Imac and upgraded to Photoshop CC and I thought I had copied all my settings and preferences over. But, I hadn't noticed that when I was saving a file PS was changing the colourspace to ProPhoto, which obviously the forum doesn't handle too well so move along people nothing to see here Laughing

Laughing Laughing

Photoshop (Well lightroom) has worked in ProPhoto as the default for years - exporting from LR direct does (Or can!) automatically swap to sRBG - Photoshop you have to convert (Though to be fair rarely export from PS Embarassed )
