c'mon girls … calm it down.
The problem will always be that inconsiderate (or worse) 4x4 drivers can/do cause some serious damage on the most beautiful bits of the countryside … i'm sure no-one is going to defend them ?
so we need something in place to allow everyone to enjoy these routes … perhaps close them for given periods of the year ?
I've often wondered if there was a way to introduce a "toll" … if you drive the lane, you have to take 2 bags of stone (or whatever is needed) to a given spot so that repairs/upkeep can be done. Maybe even do some of the work ?
I did some conservation work when I was (much) younger and they'd roped in the RAF boys to helicopter the stuff to where we needed it.

Exactly - don't starting banning and closing things - let's all think of a contsructive way of keeping things open and then celebrate and enjoy their history. .
