So is the horn the alarm sounder.
If so is it a data device, on a relay, or directly powered, or have I missed this somewhere on the thread?

Dunno , but my horn packed up a while back, and so did the "you haven't shut the door" reminder ..

The fix was easy as nothing more complicated than the actual horn sounder had just 'checked out' ...

I think it also mentions it the the manual, but its cold and 'oribal outside so I may look tomorrow.
..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

The horn & the alarm sounder are seperate devices, in some markets, the horn is the alarm - lucky b Censored s! - so in theory it should be possible to reassign the horn to the alarm using T4 / WDS and ignore the pitiful alarm sounder... except there's probably some euro human rights legislation that prevents it Rolling Eyes

Anyone got a 'tame' or 'helpful' dealer who might be willing to try this out? I just tried the alarm - it's pitiful!

In North America, the alarm is definitely the horn. When I fitted a musical air horn* to my LR3 (one that plays "La Cucaracha" -- a Mexican folk song)... it really scares off thieves. (However, some people think it's lunch time.) Highly recommended.

* = Sorry, I really didn't do this.

As a sidenote to too quiet alarms, I would report that the alarm on my current VW Caravelle is nice and loud. However, on the occasions when I have inadvertently set it off (when the battery fails in the remote door opener), I have driven around in the car with it wailing and whining and nobody pays a bit of attention.

Is it worth having an alarm at all, I ask myself? But, being a sucker, I did order the full gear for my D3. Sounds as though that was a waste of money. But at least I won't be so embarrassed when it goes off when it shouldn't!

try fitting a pager

Hello, all. I found a good solution to the quiet alarm problem. I fiited a pager to the l/rover alarm, so now if the alarm does go off the pager is activated to warn me. The pager does obviously have a limited range, but in practice I've found it to be perfectly acceptable. The unit was simple to fit & can be found on the attached link. .http://www.microscanalarms.co.uk/system/index.htm

regards to all.

TFC,

I would have thought it would be easy to reassign the horn to be the alarm (as long as the dealer knows what they are doing), as I did it myself on my previous VAG car (and that was very easy to do) Very Happy .

Cheers

Must be UK nanny legislation... the battery backed up sounder is there as well, a battery backed up sounder. If the main battery is dead and the horn cannot be powered... the battery backed up sounder is used... but here the battery backed up sounder is set as default in case we frighten the thief and he tries to take you to court... or god forbid you get to actually hear the alarm.

In any case I am lead to believe its configurable by the dealer.

Or possibly the fact that too many folks ignore a car alarm, so what's the point in having one that keeps the neighbouhood awake all night Laughing When mine went off the other day............ I thought it was an alarm on a car further down road that had gone off until I noticed my car's indicators where flashing away.

Well... WDS 13 v5 disk cannot reroute the alarm to the horn instead of the BBS Evil or Very Mad we tried yesterday so must be a hard wire job.
