Partial jacking on wheel has left my pump working hard
Hello,
Newby here with a question/problem. I have a 2012 Discovery 4, HSE for about 18 months. Been fine and enjoying every aspect of the car.
However, today we had a flat tyre. Rang AA, and whilst they were on their way I wanted to look under to see if I could see the cause of the flat. Used the scissor jack and partially lifted (wheel still on ground). Suspension hissed a few short times during lift. I was able to see a large nail in the tyre side wall. Lowered the jack and waited for AA.
AA arrived and plugged the tyre and reinflated.
However, after restarting to drive home, I could hear the air pump working hard. The AA man raised, and lowered and centred the suspension and said it would clear itself after a drive.
45 min drive home the pump was heard a few times in the first 10 minutes, but went quiet for most of the trip. Went to drive it later, and the pump was heard again. I raised, lowered/locked, and recentred to normal level, but the pump remained on.
What to do? Is there a reset, or manipulation of the controls to reestablish normality again?
Could it be that the jack was placed incorrectly and caused the compressor to be crushed and damaged?
BTW, did you remember to put the vehicle in Off-Road height before jacking?LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Hi,
The scissor jack was placed into the correct location hole in the chassis, as marked in the manual.
Rear left wheel.
The suspension was not locked before the partial lift. This is the issue which has upset it.
What is the process to rectify this please?
Thanks,
David.

I'm tempted to go with MrH and that the jack has been placed under the compressor cover which is just next to the jacking point of the rear left wheel. Locking/unlocking the suspension will have no effect to the compressor when jacking.

Does the air compressor cover have a drainage hole that looks like a jack location hole?2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Just been out to check with a torch. You may be right. The cover, also has a hole of the right size that permits the scissor jack to locate.
Can this cover be removed and inside inspected for damage?
David.

If it makes you feel any better you're not the first by a long chalk, and you won't be the last.

I didn't think you could repair a side wall. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

I suspect it was a get you home plug or he would have had to remove the tyre to fit it.IID PRO

Could be an expensive mistake. Some of us paint warnings next to the hole as it is just too tempting.
Need to check the pipes, compressor and the mounting bracket for damage. The cover is easy to remove.
