How would a leak present itself (other than a bubbly leak in/around the pump)? Would the suspension be low after a time sitting still?

The compressor would be working hard to keep the air tank charged, you wouldn't necessarily see your suspension drop.

Thanks.
And how often, and for how long, would you expect the pump to operate assuming normal road use and undamaged pump, etc?

Thanks Tayaste. And after the pump stops when at the selected height, does the pump periodically operate to keep the pressure tank charged at the required level?

Infrequently. I imagine only if a leak or after the car self levelling.

UPDATE:
Had the D4 into the dealership for the scheduled inspection/recall of the towbar issue: all ok. Also had the suspension compressor damage inspected.
Stood under the car with the technician and service manager to discuss what happened, etc.
The damage was to the pressed steel pump mounting bracket, not the alloy cast bracket that is attached to the chassis. The vibration was because one of the rubber mount retaining torx screw and its large top washer was in contact and transmitting the vibration to the alloy mount bracket and therefore to the car.
The compressor bracket was straightened in situ, permitting the large washer to adequately clear the alloy bracket. Vibration source solved.
The pump and lines were inspected and not found to be damaged. Checked for leakages, etc, all ok.
Close shave. Feeling all my luck for this year has been spent!
Thanks to all the advice from the forum. I certainly know where not to position the jack. I feel the manual needs to make this clear somehow. The technician showed me that the box cover to the compressor does have a 'do not jack' symbol on the cover; which is a fat lot of good!
Thanks again, I shall stay on the forum as you guys were friendly, quick and helpful in my hour of need.
David.
