parking sensors - flashing light

Hi all,

When ever I put the car in reverse, there is a long beep, the parking sensor button the the dash flashes then the beep stops (light still flashing) but the sensors dont work? If i push the button the beep stops (because im turning them off.) Has anyone any idea whats going on/where to look 1st. The beep is the rear sensors btw.
Thanks

And mine has started this now as well. Maybe it is programmed into one of the computers to do this at a certaim mileage.

That could be true. I know that reaching 44 years old my back has started to creak.
Might need connecting to a faultmate. Laughing

Well without pulling the exact fault codes this is basically "PDC broken"

In my case it was a problem with the rear loom running along the rear bumper where it looked like someone had tried a bodge repair with tape (probably chafed against the bumper cover and chassis) but it might be a sensor gone rogue. If you have the front PDC too, then it could be problems at the front even though you're in reverse.

Those who use pressure washers on their Landy should be careful about blasting too directly into the sensors as I think that is report to upset them. As is mud. Maybe heavy fog too.

Long story short, probably best to get some idea of the problem area by getting the faults read than just throwing parts at it...I have a spare sensor sitting on my bench for just that reason. It was the wiring loom....

most likely one of the rear sensors is full of water, this gives this fault and they are very prone to it!!

only thing you can do is tap each one and see if it bleed some water out around the ring you can see, if so it is most likely toast,

I did this and found the one that was U/s and replaced it and all is well again, but I know the other inboard one is not far from the same death!

so soon to be fitting another one.

check my posts there is some photo's of changing without removing te bumper!

cheers

For those with this problem in a manual Disco, does the gear display work OK?

I had the PDC issue when the manual gearbox had "lost" which gear it was in, and the gear display on the dash was lagging. As it didn't recognise it was in R, the PDC didn't work. I then did the reprogram process and all was well. Has happened twice. I don't think it is relevant to autos.

Mine does something similar, but i have the 2 inner sensors on the back, with damaged faces.

Have 2 new sensor's to get fitted on saturday and going to clean up the full loom and connectors and test the system to make sure it's working again. Very Happy

Till then, i'm just switching it off when i start the car up. As it annoy's me so i shut it up.

How do people know which out of the 8 sensors is it? Does it have to be read off fault codes?
Thanks for help as always

Put it in reverse while the engine is off but the ignition is on, take off parking brake and then bend down and listen to the sensors, they click if they are working.

Not sure about the fronts as I don't have them Thumbs Up

If your hearing's not all that you can also feel them clicking away if you put your finger on the sensor. Wink

A broken wire on the driver's side rear seems to be relatively common for PDC faults.

If you have front Sensors then make sure you check then as well, I was convinced it was oen of the rear ones on mine as it only went dead in reverse after initially starting to work.

Turned out to be one of the front ones. Confused

Right boys and girls. Did mine last night.
Ignition on, in reverse, hand brake off. Lie under the car or somewhere the parking sensors wont get you and then slide you hand over one at a time to feel it vibrate. (You can just hear them clicking too.) Works for both front and rear.
Mine was a loose plug on drivers side rear. Simply slide hand up inside bumper, give a wiggle and clip back on.
Job done
Thanks for hdlp all

Mine

Had the rear loom replaced (by an Indie)....I think one rear sensor is marginal as if its very wet onthe road it goes haywire...
I have a control module that is A-OK spare to what I will ever need for a nominal sum (to site funds)...its located on the nearside / passenger side behind a panel....I got this myself as the local stealer said it was duff (& it wasnt).
