Parking break screams - what must be replaced?

Hi there!
Just joined and did - as a matter of fact - some searching on the forum without any success regarding my problem. Ok, the car is a D3 TDV6 -05, some 120.000 kms.

The last weeks the electric parking break has had a tendency to "scream" as I engage it. But not always. Normally 1 out of some three times. If it "screamed" you used to be able just to take out the key, put it back and then it would work again.
Then last week all of a sudden the break would not go off at all.
I pulled the emergency release and went to the authorised LR service station.

The service guy called me after one day and told me that there's a problem with a cable pack.
They told me something I first did not believe. It should take 6 hrs (!!) to dismantle the stuff you needed to swap the cable. Crazy.... Is this LR or Lexus?
Anyway today I called back. A week after. Yes they had changed the cable. But it did not help!!!
Instead they were in waiting mode for instructions from the Swedish national LR representative. At 4.30 pm this afternoon they were looking at ordering a new parking break module (what's that?)
And what are the odds it would help?
They were speculating losely regarding some overheating (error code). Anyone that heard of that before?

Your advice is much appreciated in case you have experienced something similar!

Cheers,
/Magnus

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

Retry your search using +EPB as the criteria and stand well back and be prepared to get deluged with the number of threads it will bring up Whistle

First time you hear it scream, then you need to avoid using it until you've adjusted the parking brakes. Otherwise it gets overtensioned and the clutch mechanism gets Censored

Use the bits somewhere within this ZIP file, so you can adjust the rear parking brakes yourself.

If your EPB module/actuator is knackered as your mechanic says it is then no amount of adjusting will rectify it.I had mine replaced last Friday.I reduced the cost by buying the module from Nick Lee in Yeovil Landrover . I was quoted over a thousand euros for supply and fit from my dealer but reduced the cost by sourcing the part seperately. The book time for the procedure is 4 hours I think.I attempted to replace it myself but the job is not one for the vehicle on axle stands but a 4 post lift. The module sits up above the rear axle.Take your off side rear wheel off , follow the thick cable with your eye and you'll see it.

By the way, the sound the park brake module makes( when its knackered) is considerably different than what most members would have experienced when it just needs adjusting.

good luck and hope you'll have it solved shortly.

Wex, yes, different sound, but the one described initially was the good ole traditional scream, which adjustment can normally fix Thumbs Up

You all fixed for the weekend then? Thumbs Up

Jee.... aren't you all heroes... Thanks again.

Just off the phone with the local dealer/service guys by the way.

They said that the Queen's representatives in Sweden had recommended dismantling a bit more of "hidden" cabling. This presumably based on a (to me unknown) error code which in some way represented "over heating".

Does this sound familiar in some way?

And yes, the sound is a screaming type. Like a big cat being tortured.
