Parking break fault
Hi,
Just got a Disco 3 and have already had the parking brake unit replaced. Everything worked fine until I went to put the parking brake on the other day and nothing happened. After repeated attempts and lots of swearing the amber and red warning lights flash and parking brake fault appeared. In discussed I turned the engine off and removed the key. Low and behold the parking brake engaged.
The fault is now intermittent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
The car is currently under warranty but I have no confidence in the garage.
For your info I've had the car 6 week and have had 4 faults so far all fixed under warranty.
Any pointers would be a help.
Thanks for the help
Rob

probably needs a good servive - easy to do if you have a few spanners.
have a look at "Bodsy"'s signature. he has a Bodsy Brake Bible that explains it in idiot language - cos thats the way he writes
seriously ... it will show you step by step how to clean the EPB - i would try that first, otherwise oit could be the actuator.Duncan

I'd go for the epb switch or wiring fault rather than a mechanical fault.Bodsys Brake Bible

I had the parking brake lights come on, a message that the automatic release would not operate and then loss of the parking brake a while ago. It was traced to a wiring fault which appears to be quite frequent since the cure was to fit a special replacement section to the loom. Apparently it is cheaper to apply the standard patch to the wiring than to find and repair the specific fault. The total cost was about £120.

I was thinking it could be a dodgy switch but having looked at the wiring diagram it could be a multitude of things including lots of control modules on the CAN bus.
The funny thing is the car seemed to know I was pulling the switch but did nothing.
I'm favouring a dodgy switch.
At the moment everything's working. Maybe there was so crap in it?
Just wondering what was wrong with a good old fashioned hand brake lever?
